Engineering tools in a workshop

Ella, AIM Altitude

"I've learnt skills not just for the workplace, but for life too!"

I work for AIM Altitude, an aircraft cabin design and manufacturing company based close to Bournemouth Airport. I am currently studying towards a Level 2 Engineering Apprenticeship specialising in Mechatronics which is really interesting!

My course involves lots of practical workshop learning, where we are taught all sorts of machining and fabrication techniques, as well as the key skills of engineering design.

I’ve always had an interest in Engineering, but I was really inspired to study Mechatronics by my trip to a College Open Event. After speaking to the Engineering department, I was sure this was the best place for me to come and progress my career and to enjoy my studies.

As well as learning the essential skills of Engineering, I love being treated and respected as an adult at College and in the workplace. I get on really well with my colleagues both at AIM and the other students on my course. Everyone’s really friendly and there to help and there’s great support from my tutors too.

Choosing this Apprenticeship has proven to be the best decision I could possibly have made. I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
