David, Former Business Administration Apprenticeship

Business Administration

David, age 19, Sales and Marketing Administrator, The BASE

“My Apprenticeship was the stepping stone into a job for me.”

I was very lucky to get my Apprenticeship. When I came in to The College for my interview, they said there was a vacancy. The next week, I had an interview and ended up getting it!

I really enjoyed my Business Admin Apprenticeship. I thought I would be seen as a student, but I was completely wrong – I was treated very professionally. I imagined I’d be answering the phone and working on spreadsheets, but being in a marketing department was really creative and fun. I had to think outside the box a lot. My day-to-day tasks involved maintaining social media, which I really enjoyed, and purchasing merchandise and stock.

David, Business Administration ApprenticeMy employer was very supportive. Whenever I had a question they would always help. And the teachers at The College always helped me out. If I had any problems I could just email or phone somebody.

The Apprenticeship has helped me in many ways. I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do after my A-Levels, so my Apprenticeship was that stepping stone into a job. I now have a Full-Time job as a Sales and Marketing Administrator within The BASE team at the college. It involves a lot of social media and marketing, and I also engage with businesses and students.

My advice to people considering an Apprenticeship is to have a good look at what’s available. The good thing is you can apply for as many opportunities as you like. I would definitely recommend going to a taster day to make sure it’s right for you. When you’ve found out what you want to do, just go for it and don’t look back!
