I had originally trained as a chef, but after working in the industry for a while I realised that I wanted to do something different. My dad owns a painting and decorating business and when he suggested I join him, I thought it would be a great opportunity to retrain and enrol onto an Apprenticeship.
The Apprenticeship taught me lots of new skills that I was able to apply back at work. My tutors were really supportive. They could see that I had potential and really pushed me to develop. We were given the opportunity to enter regional and national competitions and I seemed to do quite well at them too. I was even named Crown Trade Apprentice Decorator of the Year - twice.
I eventually want to use the knowledge and skills I’ve learnt from the Apprenticeship to work in Australia before taking over my dad’s business. I’m really glad I made the switch.
