What does Vincent think?

Vincent Allen, age 36
"When I originally got a job in an engineering company, I didn’t have any relevant qualifications, so I wanted to address that. In recent years I have taken several courses in Manufacturing Management at the College. I began with a Level 3 BTEC course, before studying a two year Higher National Certificate (HNC) and then my current Foundation Degree.
The goal is to become qualified to become a manager in an engineering firm, and ultimately it’s given me all the tools I would need to run a company. My studies have given me a crucial insight into the business aspects of manufacturing management, as well as manufacturing processes, quality control and quality management.
I have really enjoyed several elements of the course, from 3D modelling to the higher level mathematical aspects involved in manufacturing. It has been extremely satisfying applying what I have learned back in the work place.
The tutors are also really helpful. They have extensive industry experience, and they provide an excellent insight into what is expected of a manufacturing manager in practice. There is a range of different ages in the class, but we are all here to learn, and we all get on really well.
For anyone that has a desire to work in an engineering environment at a higher level, and to get themselves off the shop floor, this is the way to do it. In my own case I currently work as a quality inspector, and this course could help me become a quality manager, or alternatively I could now move into production control or operations management.
As a practical way of learning, you are gaining work experience on top of the tuition, which will ultimately pay dividends in the long run."
