English and Maths for Adults

Martin, Bournemouth & Poole College Adult Student"There were several reasons I decided to come back to education with the College. A key reason is that English and maths are fundamental to my ambition to train as a nurse in the future.

At the College, the Functional Skills courses in English and maths are free, which was an excellent incentive for me to start studying them. Another appealing factor was that I could study the courses in my own time in the evenings, so I didn’t have to book any time off work.

"I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I’ve re-learnt things that I had completely forgot about! A huge part of that is down to the excellent teaching staff."

The tutors are really easy to connect with and make an effort to understand your situation. In fact it is a really supportive environment and there is always someone on hand if you get stuck. It feels so great to be able to come to College thirty years after leaving school and still feel right at home.

We study all sorts of topics in our English classes, from grammar to current affairs, whilst in maths we learn about all the key aspects, from algebra to decimals, fractions and long multiplication.

I’m really happy with my decision to come back to College and I can’t wait to get the qualifications which will help my future career in nursing."
