Level 2, Electrical Installation

Ellectrical Installation adult learner in workshop at Bournemouth & Poole College, DorsetI had got to a point in my life where I really needed to decide what I wanted to do as a future career. I had previously completed a Level 1 Craft and Skills course which covered things like tiling, plumbing and painting and decorating, but I wanted to pursue a course in Electrical Installation as it fits in with what I would like to do for a career – property development and maintenance.

"The whole college experience has been completely exhilarating, especially having new goals to achieve and to do well."

When you first join everyone is at a different level and sometimes you can cover the same ground, but it ensures that you fully understand everything.

The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) has been brilliant. I’ve been able to get lots of information and do lots of extra reading around the course. Especially useful as I haven’t always managed to attend all of the classes.

One of the biggest concerns I had when I started was the financial side. However it’s a catch 22 and you have to weigh up what’s best for you and your situation. If you don’t take the risk then you could end up being stuck in career that you don’t really enjoy, not getting to where you want to be.

I can’t recommend going back to college and this course enough. The support has been fantastic and I’ve fitted in really well. If you’ve got the drive, get on and do it. It will change your life.
