Looking For Part Time Work Whilst At College?

The following include places where you can find information on job (& apprenticeship) vacancies both part time and full time:

  • Local Connnexions Service website: Click onto vacancy search, then area and type of vacancy you wish to look for. To obtain full details about a vacancy you will need to phone the local Connexions Centre (or see Phil in college) or pop into the local Connexions Centre.
  • If you live in the Ringwood/New Forest area you can ask for a copy of the New Forest Vacancy Bulletin from Connexions South-Central phone 023 8087 7960 for a copy.
  • Jobcentre Plus website: Click onto the ‘Job search Now’ icon on the first page and enter details of the area and type of work you want to find. The website also gives you details of local JobCentrePlus offices (where you can also go and look at job vacancies on computer touch screens)
  • Local Newspapers often have ‘job sections’ that list local job vacancies, e.g. the ‘Daily Echo’ (copies can be found in the College LRC’s, Advice & Guidance Centres in college, Connexions Centres & public libraries). Some local newspapers have job vacancy search options on their website, e.g. Daily Echo.
  • Speak to people you know (friends/family, work placement colleagues) who may be aware of current vacancies at their employer
  • By visiting employers at their premises in your local town/area, e.g. going into shops, cafe’s, coffee shops/restaurants and asking to speak to the manager/superviser and seeing if they have any current part time job vacancies
  • Some job vacancies are advertised on notice boards in shops and Community Centre locations
  • Lots of employers advertise their job vacancies on their website, you can use search engines such as Yell, Google or Scoot to find the web addresses of companies you are looking for
  • You can also use recruitment agencies who can find you employers who have current job vacancies, to register with an agency you will need an up to date CV and a clear idea of the type of work you are looking for (if you are under 18 you will also need an ‘Agency Letter’ from your local Connexions office). You can use search engines such as Yell.com to obtain lists of Recruitment Agencies in your area
  • The College Job Shop, this page of the College website contains details of some job vacancies. From the homepage go to the section called Current Students, then The College Job Shop.
  • Job hunting websites such as Monster
  • You can contact employers speculatively (or ‘on-spec’) by sending them your CV and covering letter to see if they have any current job vacancies of the type you are looking for
  • By looking at Job Vacancy Bulletins (hard copy) produced by employers and those produced by local Connexions Offices, e.g. most NHS hospitals and local councils produce ‘in house’ jobs bulletins that you might be able to get by speaking to their Human Resources Department. Many local Connexions Offices produce lists of current local job vacancies in their local area.
