The Health and Safety Section is part of the Human Resources Department and provides a comprehensive service to staff at The College. The Section consists of a Health and Safety Manager, an Occupational Health Nurse Advisor and a Health and Safety Officer. This team is also supported by a group of volunteer first aid at work trained staff who provide first aid cover to all our students and staff.
The team provides guidance and training to managers and staff in helping to meet our legal and moral duty. Training is mainly provided by the team and occasionally from external sources. Twenty five different courses are run for the benefit of staff many of whom use that knowledge to train students in health and safety matters.
The Section supports the rest of the College in undertaking their risk assessments as required under the various statutes. Where there is a legal requirement to undertake tests and inspections these are also arranged or carried out.
There is a College wide Health and Safety Committee where active consultation with employees Safety Representatives takes place. The committee concentrates on new and revised health and safety policies and procedures.
