A Dorset apprentice has been awarded a top prize in a national painting and decorating competition.

Aston Gooding, from Dorchester, is the first student from Bournemouth and Poole College to enter the contest.

An apprentice for CG Fry & Son Ltd, Aston was crowned the junior winner of the Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year contest, at a dazzling masquerade ball hosted by national trade body the Painting and Decorating Association.

Bournemouth & Poole College is hosting an event in the new year for the public to discuss a potential fresh start in their career.

The event takes place at the College’s Poole site, North Road, on Thursday, January 9 from 3.30 to 6pm. Attendees will have the chance to meet with tutors and discuss career options. Visitors will also be provided with information on different courses (part-time and full-time) and apprenticeships starting between January and April 2020.

Dorset-based reflexologist, Elle Bussey, has won the title of 2019 FHT Student of the Year at a national awards ceremony

The award was presented to Elle at the 2019 FHT Conference: Supporting the Integrated Healthcare Agenda, held at The King’s Fund, London, on 29 November.

Bournemouth & Poole College is calling on members of the public to share their photos of the Students’ Union from the past 50 years to mark the anniversary.

The College launched its 50th anniversary celebration campaign in September with a ‘50 years’ themed Freshers’ Fair complete with a ‘bucking bronco’ and DJ set for more than 2,000 students. In February 2020, it will be hosting a 50th anniversary celebration for past and present students and staff to highlight the vital role of the Students’ Union and how it provides them with a voice and supports student life.
