Record breaking numbers seeking college places in Dorset

The Bournemouth & Poole College’s latest campaign to promote Apprenticeships attracted almost 700 people to its spring open event. That’s a record for such an open event at The College.

It coincided with National Apprenticeship Week and the launch of over 100 new Apprenticeship opportunities.

The Bournemouth & Poole College continues to offer the widest choice of Apprenticeships schemes in the region.

What made this spring event so attractive was the support of local companies of all sizes and sectors. There were brand new Apprenticeships launching such as Cyber Security, IT Software and Marketing.

Employers who attended the event included Sunseeker International, which announced the recruitment of 40 young people to learn the high-value skills associated with the luxury boat building industry; Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital; Marden Edwards; The RNLI; Siemens; Caterpillar Marine, Magellan Aerospace; Cobham plc; Superior Seals; AGI Ltd; W G Jones, Aish Technologies; Swissport International; Lymington Precision Engineering; Babcock DSG, Dorchester County Hospital, Elenor Care; Home Instead Senior Care and Babcock International.

A college spokesman said: “This was by far the most successful spring open event. There was an enthusiastic atmosphere and it was no surprise with the range of opportunities on offer and the structural changes and investment in the last five years.”

Government figures show Apprenticeship schemes have never been more popular. More young people than ever are opting to start earning wages early and 2.4 million Apprenticeships were started in England during the last Parliament.

Apprenticeships are also increasingly popular with adults as 42 per cent of apprentices in FE colleges are aged 25+.
