How college trained stylist gave X Factor’s Louisa Johnson the winning look

Aaron and Louisa Johnson

Hair and Beauty students at The Bournemouth & Poole College had more reasons than most to focus on the X Factor contestants this year.

One of the former students at the college, Christchurch-born Aaron Carlo was the man putting all the glamour and style into their looks.

It's been a few years since Aaron, 30, finished his training at the college and the salon where he first learned his skills, Tony Hair in Christchurch. He has built a brilliant reputation as a session stylist for glossy magazine models, fashions houses and celebrities.

As the country voted in millions for this year’s winner Louisa Johnson, Aaron could sit back with friends and family in the knowledge it was he who had prepared her hair for the final.

Aaron said: “It was great fun working on the show, not just with the contestants on the screen but with all the support teams and the judges. It was hard intense work but so enjoyable.

“I remember my time at The Bournemouth & Poole College fondly. The staff and the quality of the training gave me a great foundation. Tony Hair gave me the experience to go and put my own stamp on the industry.”

Debi McDermott, Head of Professional Hairdressing, Beauty and Related Therapies at the college said: “It is marvellous to see how our former students progress with their careers, and Aaron has shown just how far you can get in the hairdressing business with commitment, hard work and talent.”

A spokesman for Tony Hair Christchurch said: “Aaron was always dedicated and enthusiastic in his approach to hair design. We keep in touch and it’s no surprise to us that he has made his name at the highest levels. He always had his own X Factor.”
