Graduate Expo show cases students skills in CGI

Our students CGI work

The Graduate Expo is a non curriculum event that showcases both BSc and FdSc CGI work direct to industry. The companies are personally invited to attend and often the outcome are placement positions for a 'sandwich' degree or employment for those students that stand out. The staff do all they can to get as many people through the door and this can often be an all year round job. It is not only industry that come to the show. Students from other courses looking to progress or even change direction. Schools and Colleges across Dorset are invited to come and look at the coursework and talk to the students about the course.

The work produced by the CGI students this year has met the very high standard set by previous years and has culminated in numerous interviews and job offers.

The course is comprised of two pathways. Architectural Visualisation and Modelling & Animation. Some of the film shorts this year were a full model of the cathedral at Ypres, in France; a pirate ship's captains quarters reinvented as a game environment and a fully choreographed martial arts fight scene using our in-house motion capture system.

Our primary advantage of our course is our special relationship we have with industry. Throughout the year, we have company representatives attending as either guest speakers or panel members for student presentations. These companies can range from motion capture specialists from Shepperton studios, Double Negative, Uniform, The Neighbourhood and PLP Architects.

The show was officially opened this year by 5 members of Darcstudio, a local visualisation company based in Pokesdown, Bournemouth. This company has a record of employing our students who have successfully graduated with a BSc degree.
