First stop on the road to success for college girl Keri

As a member of the finance team Keri has become the first Yellow Buses apprentice

Keri Kane, 20, from Parkstone is helping to make the famous Yellow Buses of Bournemouth run smoothly.

As a member of the finance team Keri has become the first Yellow Buses apprentice - and she’s loving it. Keri has completed her one year Level 2 AAT Apprenticeship and will return to the college in September to begin Level 3.

Keri says as a junior part of the Administration Team she was surprised at the level of responsibility she was given from day one.

She said: “It’s my first permanent job so it’s not what I expected at all. Passing both my exams at The College has helped boost my confidence and now I want to go on and develop my skills with the company.

“It’s a great place to work. In a sense I am in the office as soon as I step on the Yellow Bus that brings me down to the depot at Yeoman’s Way, Bournemouth. Although I work at a desk, I do see the practical results of our work every day.’

Vanessa Payne, Yellow Buses Financial Controller, said: “Keri is the first office apprentice the company has taken on. She certainly is a credit to herself and the college.”

The aim of the course, which Keri successfully completed, is to provide an introduction to basic accounting and finance skills.  It provides in the first term, the skills necessary for competence in finance administration, double-entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles and purchase, sales and general ledgers.

As a stand-alone AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification, or as a first step towards the intermediate and advanced levels, it has proved a stepping stone to work for many young people in recent years. The Bournemouth & Poole College course structure allows students to move up to further study in Accountancy and Finance in terms two and three.
