90 students aged 16-19 and studying on a Level 1 Diploma course at The Bournemouth and Poole College received awards for outstanding achievement and commitment. The students who attended the award ceremony are studying on various different courses ranging from Horticulture and Floristry to carpentry and Joinery.
The Level 1 Diploma Award is only achievable if the nominated students meet all the criteria. They need to attain 100% attendance, show commitment to their subject and prove themselves as hard working.
Fiona Chapman who leads the Level 1 Group across The College said, “It’s not just about achieving, it’s about attending. We have found that the students who have 100% attendance are more likely to achieve, than those who only miss a few lessons.”
Fiona added, “The star students that have achieved today wouldn’t have been able to without the help and support from tutors, family and friends.”
College life is different from school so the change can be a little daunting. However The College has various support teams in place to support and nurture student’s talents.
Arran Bailey, 18, received the Level 1 Diploma Award after being nominated by his tutor. He has just completed the Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery course and wants to move onto Level 2 and then an Apprenticeship. He previously attended The Grange School and decided to come to the College after completing his A levels.
To gain a place on a Level 1 course you will need at least 2 GCSE’s and a particular interest in the subject area. There are still places available for September , so for more details visit The College website, www.thecollege.co.uk or call The College Enquiry Centre on 01202 205205.
