A new forum for Dorset is being launched to help secure the future success of the engineering and manufacturing sector in the region. Aimed at employers from all sized companies, the forum is being introduced by The Bournemouth and Poole College’s Business Enterprise unit.

The Engineering and Manufacturing Employers Forum will meet for the inaugural session on Thursday 25th February at the North Road campus, Poole between 08.00am and 10.30am.

Duncan Newman, Business Enterprise skills advisor and organiser of the forum said, “The Bournemouth and Poole College has been working closely with companies locally for many years and we are keen to ensure that employers have the opportunity to influence decisions about education and training, and how we can develop skills to benefit the future of these industries in this area.”

“This forum is designed to provide networking opportunities with like minded people from the industry, share best practice and discuss current issues.”

The Business Enterprise team also hope to ensure that employers are fully informed about how to access any funding or initiatives available to train staff, which can be highly beneficial in the currently difficult economic climate.

Based on similar employer forums currently led by The College in areas such as travel and tourism and hospitality and food, it is hoped that companies operating in engineering and manufacturing will find the forum equally as beneficial.

Duncan added, “Both manufacturing and engineering play an important role in the regional and national economy. We currently work with micro businesses and SME’s up to large multi national and international groups, and I think the forum will fill a gap and provide members with some useful opportunities.”

The inaugural meeting will cover topics including the introduction of the new 14 – 19 engineering Diploma qualification, plus a case study on the measurable impacts of the Business Improvement Techniques qualification specifically for engineering and manufacturing companies.

Membership to the Engineering and Manufacturing Employers Forum is free of charge. For details and reservations please call Business Enterprise on 01202 205500 or email be@thecollege.co.uk
