Luxury manufacturer to recruit ten further apprentices in Portland

Sunseeker International is delighted to announce that it is hiring a record intake of apprentices in 2015, with a further ten currently being recruited to join the brand’s Osprey Quay team. These new hires will bring the total number of apprentices to 38 – the highest number in one year to date.

Sunseeker is giving ten lucky people in Portland, Dorset, the chance to join the Sunseeker team as Apprentice GRP Laminators. The apprentices will play a pivotal role on the production lines of Sunseeker’s iconic range, from the 48ft San Remo through to the brand’s flagship 155ft superyacht, working on the production and manufacture of GRP components, from hulls, decks and superstructures to small mouldings such as wet bars and seating.

Sunseeker has recognised the benefits of developing apprentices for over 35 years and works with Bournemouth & Poole College and its specialist Marine Technology Centre to hone the high level skills required to develop the young marine engineers and boat builders of the future.

Commenting on the new apprenticeships, Sunseeker’s Training Manager Alex Bowman said: “We are delighted to be recruiting ten further apprentices to join our team in Portland, Dorset. Our record intake of apprentices demonstrates our investment in the future of the marine industry, enabling young people in the local community to kick-start their career in this sector. Developing new talent within the workforce is essential to maintaining our reputation and position as a world leader in luxury performance motor yacht design and manufacture and we fully recognise that. Not only will these apprentices get to work on our range of stunning boats on a daily basis, but there are huge career development opportunities at Sunseeker and in the wider UK marine industry.”

More about the role

In return, Sunseeker will provide a three year fixed term training contract commencing in September 2015, day release at Bournemouth and Poole College, a competitive training salary, plus a range of benefits and, a career in the composites boat building industry.

The apprentice framework sits within Marine Engineering and students will work towards achieving a full level two apprentice framework in GRP Laminating.
