The Bournemouth and Poole College offers a wide range of two-year vocational courses at NQF Level 3.
These courses develop the professional and technical skills required for middle management positions. This is a practical Level 3 course for students with a real enthusiasm for art and design who are seeking a career in this growing and exciting industry. This advanced course is an excellent progression from a Level 2 or equivalent beauty therapy qualification. You will improve your beauty therapy skills on both a practical and academic level during this course, as well as expanding and developing your business awareness. This well recognised qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels for the two-year Extended Diploma and 1 A level for the one-year Subsidiary Diploma. It is suitable if you have an interest in Business and Management and would welcome the opportunity to study a broad based, vocational programme. Units covered are in the first year (Subsidiary Diploma) are The Business Environment (core unit), Business Resources (core unit), Introduction to Marketing (core unit), Business Communications (core unit), Creative Product Promotion and Starting a Small Business. Electrical / Electronic Engineering
Two-year full-time course covering the skills and knowledge required for learners to progress to employment within the engineering sector and which also meets entry requirements in its own right for learners wanting to progress to higher education in engineering and related degrees. Mandatory units include Health and Safety, Electrical and Electronic Principles. Other Year 1 units: Mathematics for Engineering Technicians, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Microprocessor Systems and Applications, Programmable Logic Controllers, Electronic Circuit Design & Manufacture, Engineering Design and Electrical Technology.

This course is designed to provide the practical expertise and underpinning knowledge necessary at Level 3. Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up / Hair
The diploma is most suitable for those with a keen sense of colour and creative ability, also an interest in researching and developing make-up design ideas. It covers every aspect of make-up techniques to provide access for film and television work, stage, display and other media purposes. Subjects covered include Working with colleagues within beauty related industries, Monitor and maintain Health and Safety in the salon, Creative Hairdressing design skills, Design and apply face and body art, Fashion and photographic make-up, Apply airbrush make-up to the face, Media Make-up, Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps, Style and fit postiche, Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques.
Hospitality and Events
This full-time course is for ambitious students with a desire to pursue a career in supervision, management, events or are thinking of running their own hospitality business. Subjects covered in Year 1 (Subsidiary) include Customer care in hospitality, Personal and Professional development, European food, Financial control in hospitality, Food safety supervision, Front office operations, Industry related project, Marketing for hospitality and The hospitality industry. In Year 2 (Extended) units include Alcoholic beverage service operations, Asian food, Contemporary world food, Event management, Food service organisation, Hospitality business enterprise, Human resources, Team leadership and supervision. This course also includes the following qualifications: Level 2 Food Safety, Level 3 Supervising Food Safety and BIIAB Level 2 Award in Personal Licence Holders.

Computing (previously Web and Games Development)
This course is suitable for learners wanting to progress to higher education in Computing, Computer Science or related degrees and also Apprenticeships. Mandatory units in Year 1: Communications and Employability, and Computer Systems. Optional units (to be confirmed) are likely to be chosen from Website Development, Client Side Customisation of Websites, Computer Games Development, Human Computer Interaction, IT Project, Digital Graphics and Computer Animation. Suitability for the full two-year Extended Diploma will be assessed upon successful completion of the first year.

Creative Media Production
You will explore the creative digital world and be live on our own Internet Radio Station. At the end of the first year you will achieve a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma and an AS Level in Film or Photography. Subject studies include Film and video editing techniques, Single and multi camera techniques, Stop motion 2D animation production, News production for radio, radio drama and music-based programming, Page layout and design, Graphic narrative production, Photography and photographic practice, Pre-production techniques for the creative media industries, Communication skills through creative media production, Research techniques for the creative media industry, Creative media production management project, 3D modelling and animation.
Travel and Tourism
This is an ideal choice if you want to develop your understanding of the tourism industry, together with gaining the practical skills required to prepare you for a career in the tourism industry. This qualification is equivalent to an A Level and is widely recognised by industry and universities. It is taught within a grade 1, award winning department, and has been developed in consultation with employers in the travel and tourism industry so you can be sure of developing relevant skills and knowledge.
