We recognise that many students consider health and fitness a major part of their lifestyle at University. The Department of Sport and Recreation, on the BU Talbot Campus, offers a wide range of facilities and training programmes to suit you, whether you are dedicated to continuing professional sports training while at Bournemouth, or just looking for a fun way to keep fit.
The University's facilities include:
- 40-piece fitness suite including cardio-vascular equipment, free weights, resistance machines and spinning bikes
- Hot Rocks climbing Wall
- Cricket ground at nearby Dean Park
- Sports hall, two rugby pitches, two multi-surface pitches and a squash court
- Indoor state-of-the-art golf simulator, with video analysis equipment.
There is a comprehensive programme of fitness classes throughout the week ranging from Aerobics to Spinning. Instructional classes are available in Badminton, Street Dance, Yoga, Pilates and several types of Martial Arts.
Health Zone:A health and fitness consultancy service with a wide range of treatments and services is available, including Sports Massage, Body Massage, Homeopathy, Chiropractors, Physiotherapy, Nutritional Advice and one-to-one fitness testing guidance.
Coach Education:Bournemouth University's Sport Development Unit has developed a comprehensive Coach Education Programme. This includes Sports Coach UK workshops; running sport and national governing body courses as well as a Foundation Degree in Coach and Athlete Development. Bournemouth University is an established Sports Coach UK Regional Coach Education Centre.
Competitive Sport:BU Sports Leagues (BUSL) offer an extensive programme of friendly competition for people wishing to take part in sport for fun. These include indoor 5-a-side, outdoor 6-a-side, squash, badminton and tennis ladders and indoor and outdoor golf leagues.
