FdA Radio Production

Higher Education at The College is actively promoting Foundation Degrees to Industry. As these are vocational courses it is important for us to work in partnership with interested employers who can offer short-term student placements, sit on our advisory panels, or guest speak at a lecture. This continually serves to update the quality of the courses we can bring to our students and help to produce graduates with skills recognised and needed by Industry.

Skills for the Professional Workplace
Radio in the UK is a major growth industry. 91% of the adult population listen each week, served by eight national stations, 272 local commercial stations and 42 BBC local radio stations. Added to this, a new platform of community stations are currently being launched.
The Foundation Degree in Radio Production is a partnership between education and Industry which addresses the practical skills required to become a radio practitioner/professional.
Wherever possible, teaching is directly linked to the professional workplace and radio companies work as partners with tutors not only in the delivery of this innovative course, but also in decisions relating to its content.

Work Placement
This is the students' opportunity to experience a real working environment. Through regular tutorials and careers seminars, students are taught how to approach companies for placement. They are then expected to arrange a 6 week placement with an industry relevant company and gain experience at management / supervisory level. Students are required to produce an assessed body of work from their placement and The College requests feedback from a designated 'mentor' at the company who reports on the student's performance.
Getting Involved
This is a very important element of the course and The College is always pleased to hear from interested companies willing to take students for placement. It is an opportunity for Industry to play an influential role in determining the tuition we give our students so as to install in them the skills they really need for business. Find out how to get involved. ____________________________________________________________________________
