Become an 'Investor in Students'
New to 2009 is our Investors in Students certification being piloted by our Tourism, Business and Management, Marketing and Finance and Law courses.
It is our way of recognising employers who have assisted us with our industry needs within Higher Education and already 82 companies are set to recieve their award.
As this initiative takes off their are further plans to market our recognised employers and develop future relations.
Taking a student for a work-based learning placement not only gives them invaluable experience for their course, but also can be a rewarding and worthwhile experience for an employer.
- Students can bring fresh enthusiasm and new ideas to your business and can be an extra resource at a busy time. They also have access to university/college resources, together with current technology and academic thinking, so can bring additional skills which could help you tackle long-term projects.
- Providing a placement is an opportunity to train a potential new recruit to your business with no commitment or risk. Working with a student over a number of weeks is the ideal way to 'test the water' and potentially recruit someone for the longer term.
- Students on placement can provide a cost effective solution to your recruitment needs. You can recruit students when you need them with no long term commitment.
- Foundation Degrees are tailored to Industry and students emerge from their studies with work-based skills. You may want to check whether the Foundation Degrees offered at The College include courses relevant to your specific industry.
- Providing Foundation Degree students with placement experience helps them enormously because you will be feeding back into Higher Education programme development, so contributing to student employability. It is also a chance for you to become involved in the mentoring of Foundation Degree students, so adding to their personal development and experience.
