Introduction:
This multi-dimensional degree puts a special emphasis on developing design and making skills in glass, metals and ceramics and encourages integration with other materials and processes such as textiles and print. Workshops in visual studies, photography, digital imaging and IT enable you to develop your presentation skills and a professional portfolio ready for a career in the creative industries .
A unique aspect of the course is the chance to establish your first professional contacts through work-based learning. This is achieved through client-led and self-initiated assignments including external competitions and 'live' briefs. This may involve working alongside other creative professionals, undertaking projects in the community, or through placement in studios, galleries or museums.
This is a highly practical course where you will be encouraged to develop a unique creative identity and distinctive style. This is complemented by visiting speakers, educational visits and contextual studies where you will gain an understanding of the historical, social, political and economic influences affecting contemporary practitioners in the applied art and design field.
A high profile final exhibition will provide the culmination to your studies and launch your future career as a creative professional.

Entry Requirements:
- A minimum of 3 GCSEs, to include Maths, English, and Art at grade C or above, or an equivalent qualification
- Plus a pass in ONE A-level grade C or above, or
- An Access to Higher Education Diploma
- Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Creative and Media considered in combination with other qualfications
- Interview with portfolio of work
(Indicative Tariff points 120 from non-relevant subjects from two 6-unit awards, or 80 from relevant subjects from one 6-unit award
Preferred subjects: All subjects considered
Mature entry is actively encouraged and relevant work experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications.

Course Progression:
On successful completion of this qualification, you will be prepared for a wide range of employment opportunities within the Creative Industries. The majority of students choose to progress onto the BA(Hons) Applied Art & Design top-up programme or the third year of a related honours degree at another institution. Alternatively, you could establish your own workshop as an artist, craftsperson or designer-maker.
