Introduction:

This course covers a range of inter-related business and IT topics, giving students the skills and understanding to participate effectively in the introduction and development of IT in commerce, industry, and administration. The course focus is on the application and use of IT in smaller businesses, or in departments within larger organizations, and features many case studies drawn from these areas to ensure that the skills learnt are directly applicable to the workplace. Students are also offered the opportunity to complete CISCO IT Essentials One and CISCO CCNA Semester One.

Entry Requirements:

To join this course you must have:

  • 4 GCSEs at grades A-C to include Maths & English or equivalent qualification
  • At least 1 A level or,
  • BTEC National Diploma, NVQ3, or equivalent
  • A relevant Access to Higher Education Diploma
  • Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Information Technology in combination with other qualfications

(80 Tariff points from one 6 unit award)

Preferred subjects: Computing, Information Technology, or Business

Course Assessment:

You will be taught by IT Professionals within our Centre for Business, computing and Tourism at our Lansdowne site, Central Bournemouth. We are a Microsoft Professional Academy and Cisco Regional Academy.

The course is run in partnership with Bournemouth University.

Course Progression:

On successful completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to progress on to the BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology Top-up degree. Other degrees, such as BA Business Management and BA Finance and Law top-up, may also be available. Students wishing to enter employment will find that the practical skills and academic knowledge they have gained are invaluable and extremely attractive to employers. Previous graduates have found work in a variety of areas, such as Decision Support, IT, Sales and Marketing, Information Management, Systems Analysis, Office Administration, and Help Desk Analysis.
