Introduction:
This part-time course, delivered at Bournemouth & Poole College, will give students a superb grounding in the essential principles and techniques needed to meet the increasingly challenging and exciting nature of this industry. It is a nationally recognised qualification for higher technician engineers in industry, and has been designed to be relevant to the needs of employers in the fields of Production, Manufacturing Engineering and Management.
At HNC level, students will study Manufacturing Technology and Management of the Production / Manufacturing Process. This will incorporate the latest techniques in the organisation of the work area and quality management. Students will become adept in the use of CAD software to produce engineering drawings that are suitable for conversion to solid models using our modern rapid prototyping facility, and various methods of automated manufacture. Students will also study the types of system available and their capabilities in terms of the rapid introduction of products to a competitive marketplace.
At FdSc level, students will develop production management techniques still further, with the emphasis on work that is directly linked to the requirements of the employer. Credit is given for Continued Professional Development and a company-relevant major project.
Entry Requirements:
HNC
- At least one A level at grade C in a relevant subject or equivalent AVCE or National Diploma (or equivalent UK or overseas qualifications)
- Students with a National Certificate or National Diploma in Manufacturing should normally have a Merit in Mathematics and/or Mechanical Principles
- 4 GCSEs at Grade C to include Maths and English
- Applicants should have good literacy and numerical skills appropriate to the programme, a good undertsanding of computing and an aptitude for technical work

FdSc
? 120 Level C credits from an HNC in an appropriate discipline
? Normally at least 40 credits should be at Merit level or above and 20 of these credits should be from a mathematical analytical unit

Course Progression:
