This course can be studied as a one year full time course or a two year part time course. The full time course spans three days per week for one year and the part time option requires one and/or half days per week attendance over two years.

Introduction:
This specialist Access course is aimed at mature students who are interested in progressing to a sport related course in higher education with a view to eventually working in sport.
If you are a mature student who has had a break from studies and are looking for a return to education, our courses provide an excellent preparation for Higher Education and a step towards your dreams of university.
This course gives you a thorough grounding in science, business, and eithical dimensions of sport as well as practical skills in coaching, fitness development, training and rehabiliation of sports injuries.
Entry Requirements:
You must have a real interest in the subject area and be working towards or have achieved level 2 literacy and numeracy. There is likely to be a written assessment exercise at interview. Applicants should participate in sport on a regular basis. All students joining this course will be subject to checks with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). To apply go to:

Course Details:
You will study compulsory units such as:

- ICT and Study Skills
All of which will help prepare you for continued studies at HE level.

- Sports Injuries Rehabilitation

- Business for Sport
- Research Project
All students can take a range of NGB (National Governing Body) awards at discounted prices. The course is designed to prepare you for continued study at degree level and to develop your understanding and underpinning knowledge of the sports industry.
Course Assessment:
Assessment will be based primarily on course work assignments but some units may involve tests and practical tasks. The Access to HE Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification and you will need to achieve a minimum 60 credits with 45 credits at level 3.
Course Progression:
Students completing the course will be able to progress to a range of sports related foundation degree or degree courses in areas such as sports coaching, sports studies and sports science.

The College's extensive facilities include excellent resource centres offering access to the Internet, CDs, videos, audio visual packages and CD Rom, as well as a stock of over 75,000 books and periodicals. Study areas/quiet rooms are available and there is also an area dedicated to careers reference material. It may be possible to study this course part time if accreditation of prior learning exists and if a negotiated timetable is possible with the course tutor.
