International Students

  • Are you an international student (not from a European Union country) and thinking of what to do after completing your course?

This section directs you towards additional key websites providing information and guidance for your needs.

Top Tips

  • Whether you are looking to work in the UK, your home country or elsewhere, the experience and skills you have gained through your time in the UK (such as language and cultural awareness) are valuable to employers. Promote these as additional 'selling' points;

  • Make full use of your time as a student to improve your CV. Work experience and extra-curricular activities (eg course representative, student committees, organising events), demonstrate you are developing the transferable skills sought by employers, in addition to your academic achievement;

  • Degrees and higher degrees will improve your career opportunities internationally;

  • If you want to stay in the UK after completing your studies, make sure you do your research and make applications well in advance, before the expiry of your student status. Stay up-to-date by checking the UKCISA and Home Office websites. Employers are only likely to try to obtain work permits for outstanding candidates or for 'shortage occupations'. If you do not need one, you should make this clear on your application;

  • For work and study outside the UK, refer to the country specific profiles of over 50 countries around the world, on the Graduate Prospects website below.
