Pre-Access Course

If you are uncertain and feel unready about undertaking the one year Access to Higher Education course, you may wish to consider a Pre-Access Course.

How Long is the Course?

This is a part-time course for one term only, probably one day a week or two half days.

What Will I Study?

You will be taught study skills, information technology, have sessions on vocational guidance and have taster sessions of the main subjects on the Access course.

What Qualifications Does the Work Give me?

Up to 4 open College credits at Level 1 or Level 2 are awarded.

What Can I do After the Pre-Access Course?

You can progress on to the Access to HE one year course commencing in September or if you prefer to take an alternative College course.

There are many other intermediate courses, especially in information technology. The Learning Resource Centres run a useful course called Research and Information Skills, which you can take either during or before your Access course.

Courses are normally run in the Spring and Summer terms, please contact the Access and HE unit (see below) or the relevant course contacts for the subjects in which you are interested. Subject areas are related to the Social Care, Health Care and general Access to Higher Education routes.
