Access to Higher Education in Social Work and Nursing

I came to England from Sri Lanka when I was 16. I now have three children and one foster child and have worked as an auxiliary nurse part-time on night duty and in various nursing and rest homes. I always wanted to go to University to become a theatre nurse.

The Access course has really improved my English and covered all the basics needed for my university course. It was so lovely at College we were so spoilt with help and support. I would recommend to anyone to go to college and then University - I feel so prepared!

Access to Higher Education in Social Work and Nursing

I was a qualified chef but due to an accident had to leave the profession. I worked for a while in sound & lighting until I was made redundant. My brother then suggested a job as a Health Care Assistant in a local psychiatric hospital - I loved the work and decided to train in nursing. I'd done nothing, academically since 1985 so the access course helped me get back into study - writing essays etc. The lecturers were great, always helpful and prepared to put themselves out to ensure you got to the level you need to be at.

I am now on the Advanced Diploma in Clinical Nursing at Bournemouth University and hope to become a Psychiatric Nurse and then eventually a Clinical Practice Educator.
