Diana Andrews Access to Higher Education in Social Work and Nursing I came to England from Sri Lanka when I was 16. I now have three children and one foster child and have worked as an auxiliary nurse part-time on night duty and in various nursing and rest homes. I always wanted to go to University to become a theatre nurse.

Darren Haine Access to Higher Education in Social Work and Nursing I was a qualified chef but due to an accident had to leave the profession. I worked for a while in sound & lighting until I was made redundant. My brother then suggested a job as a Health Care Assistant in a local psychiatric hospital - I loved the work and decided to train in nursing. I'd done nothing, academically since 1985 so the access course helped me get back into study - writing essays etc. The lecturers were great, always helpful and prepared to put themselves out to ensure you got to the level you need to be at.
