The Family Learning sector of the Skills for Life Academy is now well established and since it began in September 2004 we have been successfully delivering a range of courses at schools and family centres across Bournemouth and Poole.
The Family Learning course has made me realise that parental involvement in a child's education is crucial!
Our aim is to encourage and enable parents, carers and guardians to take a greater interest in their children's learning, provide them with ways to help their children and build their confidence to support their children's learning and development.
Many students have decided to brush up their own skills in maths, English and language skills recognising it is a long time since they studied these subjects. In response to this we have a range of courses designed and delivered to meet the needs of parents, guardians and carers delivered in the local schools and in partnership with the schools.
We have successfully run family learning courses at the following schools and family centres:
Branksome Heath Middle
The Courses we offer
A 12 week Open College Network course – an excellent preparation and award for adults interested in a career involving work with children or young people.
Basically my life has changed as a result of family learning. I have a sense of direction now.Students can progress towards other qualifications such as: NVQ in Early Years Care and Education, Playwork, Teaching Assistants' Courses and Certificates in Education.
We deliver a wide range of courses within the area of Family Learning and plan the content according to the needs of the school or centre and the students.
Courses already delivered include:
Introduction to Family Learning KS1 or KS2
We are continuing to offer all these courses during 2006-2007.
Our courses are all free... and are designed to suit the school or centre's requirements and the students. Courses are planned to run at times to suit - mornings, afternoons or evening sessions have proved very successful.
