Counselling

Welcome to Counselling Training at The College

The Bournemouth and Poole College is at the forefront of education which meets all the new standards and accreditation for counselling training. The courses The College provides prepares students for careers as well as becoming counsellors.

Our lecturing team are highly qualified counsellors and psychologists who have vast experience across a range of talking therapies including CBT, Existential, Psychodynamic and Humanist approaches. Their practical experience includes counselling in addictions, psychiatric social work, couple counselling, one-to-one counselling and extensive self development training.

Counselling - The future

Major changes are planned for the training of professional Counsellors. The Government’s initiative of Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) is opening up new career opportunities in Counselling with an additional 3,600 new posts for therapists and counsellors by 2010. This is in addition to jobs and career opportunities within schools and colleges, the charity sector and social care.

Who can benefit from counselling skills training?

It’s not only those who are training to be Counsellors that can benefit from counselling skills training. Carers, teachers, teaching assistants, police officers, nurses, health care assistants, social workers, customer service representatives and sales people have all reported that they benefited from counselling skills training.

How can counselling skills training help at work?

The real benefits of counselling skills training at work are improved personal effectiveness, resolving difficult situations quickly, reduction in stress, excellent team working, establishing good client relationships with great customer service. Our students tell us that counselling skills have not only changed how they relate to people, but have also helped them to become more resilient, more tolerant and patient and build better relationships.
