Creative Solutions To Independent Living
A Dorset based company has taken further steps to improve the lives of people with mental health problems or learning disabilities. Tangent Homes offer supported accommodation to help people live independently within the community, and have called upon staff at The Bournemouth and Poole College to help further develop staff skills and client services.
To date staff at Tangent Homes have completed NVQs in Health and Social Care, plus distance learning in safe handling of medicines, food and nutrition and courses in report writing, health and safety and risk assessment.
The Tangent Homes team accessed the training through The College’s Business Enterprise Unit, with courses delivered by specialists from the Faculty of Health, Care and Education.
Business Enterprise Skills Adviser, Jan Joy said, “The College has been working hard to support companies and agencies in the health and social care sector with skills training and development. There is a genuine desire for agencies to enhance their customer services to a wide range of clients, many of whom require special assistance and support.”
Tracey Poole, Partner of Tangent Homes commented, “The training has been a resounding success. Not only has it taught or reminded our staff about correct procedures and legislative requirements, but it has encouraged fresh thinking on issues such as nutrition and diet. The College adopted a highly flexible approach, providing NVQ’s and distance learning. This is vitally important to us, as we are a small company and can’t afford to release staff for a whole day.”
The College is keen to find creative solutions to any business or organisation’s training requirements, and can provide customised solutions, and even offer free advice on current availability for training grants or subsidies.
Jan added, “Along with other specialist sectors, legislation is constantly changing, and training is crucial to provide social care workers with continuous professional development and reminders of current working practices. We’re here to help and we do not charge for our advisory or skills assessment services.”
