swlsecruity-large_193Recession Brigns Unexpected Boost For Security Company

Local security company, SWL Security (Storewatch) is finding the recession is bringing about unexpected and welcome benefits to their business.

Founded in 2001 by Mark Ferns, the company was initially established to offer a premier loss prevention service to the retail industry in the ongoing fight against business crime. Since then, the company has continued to evolve and go from strength to strength, and now provides a wide range of innovative security solutions to its varied business clients and is finding demand for their services is on the rise.

To meet the increased demand in business, Mark has been committed to continually developing staff to meet the trend for change and flexibility.

Mark Ferns, SWL Security Managing Director said, “Our client base has grown considerably and we have had to grow too. We were able to take advantage of SME funding and as a result our key management team, including myself undertook management development training and IT qualifications. We have a very good working relationship with The Bournemouth and Poole College who always listen to our needs and find us the best solution for our business.”

Skills advisors from The College’s Business Enterprise unit have been working closely with the SWL Security (Storewatch) team for the past three years to help them assess where skills need to be developed for business efficiency. Skills advisor Jacky Grant commented, “By getting to know our clients and understand their individual needs, we can provide bespoke training solutions that really have an impact. The feedback we had in particular about the IT training was that it was the best they have ever had with immediate results.”

To help the company develop their teams, The College has been delivering NVQs in Business Administration and IT, plus professional management qualifications at Levels 3 and 4.
