Teachers and students, explore the vast variety of careers in the construction industry. Find out how the school curriculum is applied in the working world.

Our Heritage - Student Visits to Corfe Castle

Dates: 3, 5, 19 November 2009        1.5 to 2 hours sessions
Location: Corfe Castle/ Burngate

Suitable for students in Year 7 to 11 to learn about conservation of listed monuments, historic building methods and local history. Sessions will be delivered by the National Trust and teachers are welcome to expand the visit with their own curriculum activites on site. For example, we had applied Maths sessions for Year 8 and 9 students in the castle grounds!

In addition, we can organise a visit to Burngate or a 2.5 hours stone carving task (Burngate charges a fee of min. £3 per head)

Construction Diploma Taster Days
Tasters in Carpentry and Furniture Making
2.5 hours sessions as half or full day events
 
Dates: Mondays & Fridays in November & December 2009        
Location: Bournemouth & Poole College, Fulcrum Centre at Tower Park
 
Dates for wookwook, bricklaying and painting & decorating will be availabe in spring and summer term 2010
 
Suitable for students in Year 9, 10 , 11 who may consider a trade or professional career in construction. 
 
Benefits: students will
-   try their hand in a crafts trade such as carpentry, furniture making, brickwork, painting & decorating
-   talk to college staff, may be shadow a college student and get to know the college workshops
-   find out about the DIPLOMA in Construction and the Built Environment, apprenticeship schemes and  courses at the college.
 
We can take up to 12 students per session. Please book at least TWO WEEKS in advance with Sylva on sstarke@bpc.ac.uk or on 07710426868.
 
New Diploma Day
Date: 9 December 2009       all day event        
Location: Bournemouth Football Club, Kings Park

Suitable for students, parents and teachers who would like to find out about the diplomas - in any subject.
 
Benefits: Visitors will
-   receive information, advice on the New Diplomas
-   can try a brief hands-on task in a subject
-   meet professionals to discuss career options for students.
 
No need to book, just come along!
 

Construction Diploma Challenge - Build a House in a Day

Dates: TBC (in spring 2010)      from 10.00 to 14.30     
Location: TBC (probably Construction Training Centre in Poundbury)
 
Suitable for students in Year 8, 9, 10 or 11 who are open to a trade or professional career in construction. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to find out about the Diploma in Constrcution and the Built environment and the basics involved in a construction project. 
 
Benefits: Students work in teams of 5-6 and will 
-     plan and build a timber framed house with students from your school
-     get to know some of the construction workshops at the college
    talk to professionals and students in construction courses at the college
-     meet young people from other schools and compete against them.
