The DCCC was established in 1991 within a national network of about 120 curriculum centres as part of an initiative by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Today, the DCCC works with the support of organisations operating in Dorset to provide opportunities for young people, teachers, lecturers and construction employers to work together using the construction and built environment as a context for learning.
