The course follows the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Outdoor Adventure) syllabus and is a full time course suitable for students with an active interest in water sports/outdoor activities/surfing industry and an interest in working in a related field. This is a full time two year vocational course, equivalent to 2 A levels,which incorporates the Subsidary Diploma in Sport (1 year option, equivalent to one A level).
This course will give you a good introduction to the work of the outdoor and surfing industry. You will study units covering assessing risk in sport, equipment and facilities for outdoor and adventurous activity, leadership in sport, principles and practice in outdoor education, skills for and leadership of land based and water based outdoor and adventurous activity and impact and sustainability in outdoor adventure. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a range of NGB qualifications.
This course develops both practical skills and understanding through assignments and projects. Sports activities covered throughout the course will include Kayaking, Windsurfing, Powerboating, Sailing, Expedition Skills and Rock Climbing.
Part of your timetable will include either the Watersports Academy or Surf Academy option.
You will require a minimum of 4 GCSE passes at grades A* - C including English or equivalent to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport at Merit level as well as appropriate functional skills level.
You should demonstrate an active interest and participation in outdoor activity and water sports.
Students over the age of 19, without the standard entry requirements, may be eligible for this course subject to previous experience.
If English is not your first language, a minimum IELTS (Academic) of 5.5, Cambridge FCE, TOEFL 530 (paper based),71 (internet based), 197 (computer based) or TOEIC 850 is required. Completion of High School studies with good passes is required.
Assessments will range from practical observations to presentations, written reports and making DVDs.
Progression to a wide variety higher education courses in surf, sport or outdoor education related disciplies. Alternatively you may progess to employment or apprenticeship training in the surf, outdoor sport or leisure activity industry

£5900 per year to include books, examination fees and registration fees. There may be additional costs for educational visits, uniforms, materials etc. and this cost will be advised on application.
This course is run through our Watersports Academy or Surf Academy. Membership of the Academy will provide an ideal opportunity for any keen sports or outdoor enthusiasts wanting to develop their abilities. Importantly, students will need to be dedicated and committed to their chosen discipline. Academy members will be encouraged to take advantage of the south coast\'s many facilities and natural resources.
Watersports Academy: Students will get involved in a broad range of water sports focusing on sailing, and including windsurfing, powerboating and kayaking. For students demonstrating the required ability there will also be the opportunity to study towards land sport qualifications and the BEL Award in expeditioning.
Surf Academy : You will spend time enhancing your skills in surfing with a view to reaching a level of competence for competitive entry to competitions. You should be confident about swimming in open water and enjoy participating in sport and outdoor pursuits. Your training will be in conjunction with a specialist local coach. Students also have the opportunity to gain their RLSS Beach Lifeguard.
