A one year full time course designed to build confidence, gain further sporting and scientific knowledge and to enjoy studying in an academic environment.
This course is aimed at anyone who wishes to work in the sport, fitness and leisure industry and wants to gain a broad understanding of working in the industry. The opportunity to apply learning in practical and realistic contexts will also be provided.
You will study a range of units from fitness testing and training, practical sport, anatomy and physiology, development for personal fitness, effects of exercise on body systems, exercise and fitness instruction, injury in sport, planning and leading sports activities.
You will have a choice of practical sessions to develop your coaching, fitness or practical skills.
You will develop skills in independent learning, communication, numeracy and ICT which are highly valued by employers.
To join this course, students will need a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades A* - D including English, or a BTEC Level 1 with English Level 1 equivalent.
You should demonstrate an active interest in participating in sport, fitness and outdoor pursuits and have a good standard of fitness.
Applicants aged 19+ lacking the stated entry requirements may be eligible subject to having relevant experience.
Assessments will range from practical observations to presentations, and written reports.
On successful completion at merit level or above you could progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary/Extended Diploma in Sport or Outdoor Adventure. Such progression will be also be dependent on Functional Skills, a reference from the Level 2 teaching team and an admissions interview with the course tutor.
Alternatively you may progress to another Level 3 course, employment or Apprenticeship training in the sports and leisure industry.

There will be the opportunity to acquire National Governing Body awards and First Aid qualification alongside the main qualification.
You will also have opportunity to participate in visits to local sports clubs and centres.
