Introduction: 

This course is designed for school leavers and mature students wishing to retrain to enable them to pursue a career in the Woodtrades industry.

Details: 

Sujects studied include:

  • Components for assembly
  • Components to form products
  • Efficiency of the workplace
  • Finishing components
  • Health and safety
  • Load and unload materials and components
  • Selection and use of access equipment
  • Work relationships

You will also study Functional Skills.

Entry Requirements: 

You will need 2 GCSE passes or successful completion of a Foundation Learning programme at Entry Level 3. You should have a keen interest in the building industry and be medically able to take up employment in this vocational area.

International Entry Requirements: 

If English is not your first language, a minimum IELTS (Academic) of 5.0, Cambridge FCE, TOEFL 500 (paper based), 61(internet based), 173 (computer based) or TOEIC 570 is required. Completion of High School studies is required.

Assessment: 

You will be assessed through practical assignments and projects. Written theory papers are taken throughout the course.

Progression: 

On successful completion of this qualification you can progress on to the Level 2 Carpentry and joinery course or help you secure employment or apprenticeship training. It is not possible to become fully qualified unless you gain employment in the industry and produce evidence of working on site.

International Costs: 

The cost of this course is £5000 per year for tuition and a non-refundable deposit of £100 should be sent with the International Students Application for Admission Form. There may be an additional cost for materials and educational visits.
