Introduction: 

The course is designed for those who wish to gain an NVQ qualification on a part time basis whilst working within the hairdressing industry. The course will support experience and knowledge gained within the industry whilst enabling the student to become a fully qualified Junior Stylist.

Details: 

This programme places a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and technical skills.

Mandatory units include:

G20 Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to
health and safety
G17 Give clients a positive impression of yourself and
your organisation
G7 Advise and consult with clients
GH8 Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp 
GH9 Change hair colour 
GH10 Style and finish hair 
GH11Set and dress hair
GH12 Cut hair using basic techniques

Plus
A minimum of 6 credits from the following optional units:

G4 Fulfil salon reception duties - 3 credits
G18 Promote additional services or products to clients -  6 credits
G8 Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work  3 - credits
GH13 Plait and twist hair  4 - credits
GH14 Perm and neutralise hair  8 - credits
GH15 Attach hair to enhance style  3 - credits

Whilst in College you will develop your practical and theoretical skills in the college salons which provide a realistic environment. There will also be an opportunity for you to be assessed in your work placement where assessment allows.

Entry Requirements: 

There are no formal entry requirements, but you will be required to attend an interview and it is expected that you will already be employed in the trade.

Assessment: 

The course involves continuous assessment of your practical work and assessment of your underpinning knowledge and understanding through oral questioning, assignments and written on-line tests.

Progression: 

After this course you may progress onto an NVQ Level 3 Day release programme that is offered part time, Full Cost Level 3 Hairdressing or full time Level 3 Hairdressing or Full time level 3 Theatrical and media make up.
