In brief ...

The Football Performance  Academy is run in conjunction with AFC Bournemouth and provides a unique opportunity to train and play competitive football, alongside studying for nationally recognised qualifications in Sport, and an accredited Football Association Certificate in coaching football.

Who is it for

Footballers who wish to train and play competitively as well as continue their academic studies in sport.

What courses can I do after this?

....progress to the next level course within the Football Performance Academy.  Those completing level 3 may wish to apply to university or for a scholarship/coaching placement in the USA.

What jobs can I get

Football coach, Activity Leader, Leisure Assistant.

What do I need to apply

To do this course you should have ...

Entry by selection process including performance based trial.  Minimum 2 GCSE passes.  The course level is dependent on starting qualification level and will be discussed at interview.
 

We will discuss your interests, experience and ambitions at interview.

What about work experience?

Throughout the course, all students are encouraged to build a bank of volunteering hours/work experience to enhance employability.

International entry requirements

If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS (Academic) 5.5 or equivalent that is approved by the Home Office which is available at www.gov.uk

More about the course

You will have a minimum of 3 football sessions per week in addition to your academic lessons.  You will play competitive football for The College as an integral part of this course.

You will achieve a set of qualifications which include FA level 1 coaching, first aid and safeguarding.

You will be encouraged to volunteer in a coaching capacity with support from AFCB Community office contacts in schools, local clubs etc.

 

Course Assessment

Assessments will usually be workbook based but some may be practical tasks, including practical assessments.  There is an exam component to the course new for Sept 14.

You will be required to pass a practical coaching session.

Specialist Recources

Course kit will be available at the start of the course, additional items can also be purchased via our online kit supplier.  All studetns will need football boots, shin pads,trainers in addition to the course kit.

You will study a range of unitsfrom : fitness testing and training, practical sport, anatomy and physiology, development for personal fitness,   effects of exercise on body systems, exercise and fitness, injury in sport, planningand leading sports activities.

Level 3

You will study a range of units from:  Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness Testing, Fitness Training and Programming, Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Sports Development, Sports Coaching, Analysis of Sports Performance, Exercise, Health and Lifestyle, Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise, Leadership in Sport, Practical Sport, Sports Injuries, Sports Nutrition, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Psychology for Sports Performance and Applied Exercise Physiology.
