The emphasis of this course is on the technical aspects of music, sound, and audio generation, and the recording and integration of components of media systems. The course material covers areas such as audio and video principles/ authoring, software programming, and studio techniques - all of which will provide graduates with the best possible start to their careers. Students develop knowledge of both hardware and software systems that can be applied in areas such as media, music, sound and video processing.It is expected that the applicants for this course will have an interest in music and the media components, but it is not necessary for them to be either musicians or artists. The course is designed to focus students' learning on both practical and theoretical aspects of music and sound, with work experience being developed by contact with local industry.

- 4 GCSEs at grade C minimum, to include Maths and English
- Plus a pass in two A levels or an equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC National Diploma, NVQ3, or
- An Access to HE Diploma
Indicative Tariff points 120 from two full A levels or equivalent, and to include one full A level at 80 tariff points (i.e. grade C) in a relevant subject.
Preferred subjects: Information Technology, Music Technology, Mathematics.
IELTS - If English is not your first language, a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 6.0, or TOEFL 550 (paper based), or TOEFL 80 (internet based) is normally required. A telephone interview may also be necessary.

On successful completion of this course, students with the appropriate level of qualification may have the opportunity to progress onto BSc(Hons) Music and Audio Technology. There is demand in the music industry for technical expertise in music, audio and recording technology.
