Ideal for students considering a career in the Police Force, Probation Service, the Fire Brigade, the Ambulance Service, the Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Maritime & Coastal Agency, local authorities/voluntary organisations, our course combines practice and theory. It is assessed by a range of methods, including submission of a work-based assignment; demonstrating how learning has been applied in the workplace. Students’ knowledge is enhanced by visiting specialist speakers, and visits to a variety of Public Service organisations. Outdoor residential elements aim to develop personal, practical, and leadership skills.

- 4 GCSEs at grade C minimum to include English and Mathematics, or equivalent
- Plus a pass in two A levels or an equivalent level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC National Diploma / Certificate / Award in Public Services, Advanced Diploma or equivalent, or
- An Access to HE Diploma OR an equivalent qualification / prior work experience
Indicative Tariff points 120 from two full A Levels, or equivalent, and to include one full A level at 80 tariff points (i.e. grade C) in a relevant subject.
Preferred Subjects: all subjects considered.
IELTS - If English is not your first language, a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 6.0, or TOEFL 550 (paper based), or IELTS 80 (internet based) is normally required. A telephone interview may also be necessary.

Successful students may progress on to a BSc (Hons) Public Services degree offered by the University of Plymouth. Students who achieve sufficient credits in Year 1 of the Foundation Degree, who decide not to continue to Year 2, will be awarded a Certificate in Higher Education. This Foundation Degree is widely recognised by employers, and students can choose to apply for a job within the Public Services directly after successful completion of the course. The skills and knowledge acquired from this degree can be applied outside the Public Services, opening up extensive opportunities in a wide range of alternative career areas.
