The Foundation Degree in Popular Music aims to produce musicians with the compositional, performance, technological, theoretical and business skills required to compete in the modern music industry. The course focuses primarily on Rock and Pop of the past 50 years, along with other styles of 20th and 21st century music. All students are expected to be competent instrumentalists and/or singers, as live performance is a central part of the programme. Composition and songwriting are also essential components, with composing for film and TV being a particular strength. Students will be encouraged to develop important transferable skills including team working, communication, research, and analysis. You will be taught by specialist tutors who have a wealth of professional experience and strong links and contacts in the popular music industry.

- 4 GCSEs at grade C minimum including Maths and English, or equivalent qualification

Indicative Tariff points 120 from two full A-Levels or equivalent.

The programme is of interest to students wishing to pursue careers as performing musicians, composers, arrangers and music technology specialists. Other career routes, for which this course provides a strong foundation, include music teaching, music management, publishing and production.
