This route through the Foundation Degree is for students who wish to further their dance skills and develop their understanding of the dance field within a performing arts context. As well as The College’s specialist dance tutors, there will be a programme of workshops led by visiting dance professionals. The course comprises a mixture of practical and theoretical sessions with a strong emphasis on integration of the two elements. Modules include Interrogating Dance, and Skills Development and Techniques which includes Pilates, Graham Technique, and Cunningham Technique.
The course is made up of a mixture of practical and theoretical sessions.
Year 1 - Level C - Core Units:
• Introduction to Performance
• Study Skills
• Professional Development and Work Based Learning 1
Pathway Unit:
• Interrogating Dance
• Skills Development and Techniques for Dance
Year 2 - Level I - Core Units:
• Professional Development and Work Based Learning 2
• Industry Project
Pathway Unit:
• Performance Exploration
• Special Subject for Dance
Continual Assessment through a series of practical performances, written assignments and oral presentations. 100% attendance is expected to pass the programme.
- 4 GCSE passes at grade C minimum to include English and Mathematics or equivalent
- Plus two A Levels or equivalent qualfication, e.g.
- BTEC National Diploma or NVQ3, or
- An Access to Higher Education Diploma
- Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Creative and Media may be considered in combination with other qualifications
Indicative Tariff points 120 from 2 full A levels or equivalent., and to include one full A level at 80 tariff points (i.e. grade C) in a relevant subject
Preferred subjects: Dance, Performing Arts, Drama
IELTS - If English is not your first language, a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 6.0, or TOEFL 550 (paper based), or TOEFL 80 (internet based) is normally required. A telephone interview may also be necessary
