The FdA in Early Years is designed to provide a means by which practitioners in Early Years Care and Education can obtain a recognised qualification in this area. Students undertaking this Foundation Degree need to be working either part-or full-time within the sector as recommended by The Childrens' Workforce Development Council. This progressive course will be of particular interest and importance to potential Early Years Senior Practitioners, Play-workers, Classroom Assistants, and unqualified Nursery Teachers.
The course provides students with the opportunity to develop self-awareness and reflective skills, and encourages an evaluation and understanding of working with others. It is an ideal progression route from other courses and qualifications on Child Care and Education offered at The Bournemouth & Poole College.

Year 2 - Level I (18 months)

You will be required to have:
- 4 GCSEs at grade C minimum to include Maths, English and a Science for those seeking to progress to Qualified Teacher Status, or equivalent Key Skills Level 2
- One A Level or equivalent Level 3 qualification, such as NVQ3, CACHE Diploma in Child Care & Education, or BTEC Diploma in Early Years, or
- An Access to Higher Education Diploma
- Full or part time employment in the sector
Indicative Tariff points 80 from one full A-level or equivalent. There is a requirement for you to be employed in this sector. A satisfactory interview will also be required.
IELTS Statement
If English is not your first language, a minimum IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, or TOEFL 550 (paper based), or TOEFL 80 (internet based) is normally required.

As there is a requirement that applicants should already be in employment to undertake this course, knowledge and skills acquired will be implemented immediately in the workplace.
