This is a full professional qualification, taught over two years at the Bournemouth and Poole College. This course is essential if you are seeking a teaching/training career in post-16 education. For those working in further, adult, or community education, this course leads to qualified teaching status (PCET).
The course is recognised by LLUK and by ILT and SEDA (for teachers in Higher Education). The Certificate in Education is equivalent to 50% of Years 1 and 2 of a degree. The PGCE confers 60 credits at Masters level.
There are 6 formal assignments in each year 1 and 5 in year 2; coursework exercises may be set in addition to formal assessments. Also, students will be observed whilst teaching – three times in Year 1 and three times in Year 2. The course consists of lectures, seminars, group work, workshops, and individual study. Students will also have regular tutorial support.

- Usually 2 A Level passes or equivalent in a specialist subject. However, if applicants show an ability to study, formal qualifications may not be required.
- English and maths at Level 2
- Entry onto a PGCE requires a degree in an appropriate subject
- Direct entry onto Year 2 can be obtained with a City & Guilds 7407 stages 1 and 2 or CTLLS plus a 16 hour Bridging Unit.
- Applicants must be a teacher, trainer, and/or instructor currently working in post compulsory education, with a minimum of 75 teaching hours over each year for the duration of the course.
