Introduction: 

You should have a real enthusiasm for performing arts as this course offers a comprehensive education and training in drama, musical theatre and dance performance.

Details: 

This course offers a comprehensive introduction and exploration of performance and theatre in the form of practical workshops and skills development. You will regularly have the opportunity to work on productions such as plays, student devised work or showcases. In addition, you will learn about the production process and see and analyse theatre work in the Jellicoe Theatre.


You will study 18 units over two years including:
• Classical and contemporary performance
• Devising
• Jazz Dance
• Principals of acting
• Singing
• Historical context of performing arts
• Voice
• Theatre for Children


During the course you will develop your ability to respond to drama performances to improve your understanding of social and cultural contexts of theatre arts, as well as developing your performing skills.
The skills learnt on this course will help you in a variety of careers within television, film or theatre work, stage, cabaret, leisure (redcoat/cruise ships) or TV work.
 

Entry Requirements: 

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A* - C or the BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Performing Arts. Applicants will have an audition at interview and you should demonstrate a genuine interest in performing arts.

International Entry Requirements: 

If English is not your first language, a minimum IELTS (Academic) of 5.5, Cambridge FCE, TOEFL 71(internet based), 197 (computer based) or TOEIC 850 is required. Completion of High School studies with good passes is required.

Assessment: 

You will receive regular tutorials, which will enable you to discuss your progress with your personal tutor. Your study units will be assessed by both external verifiers and by your personal tutors. You will be continually assessed during your course through a series of practical performance and work related assignments.

Progression: 

After the 2 year course, progression may be to university to study for a degree, our own Foundation Degree in Contemporary or Music Theatre, specialist training at Drama school or to employment. The skills learnt on this course will help you in a variety of careers within television, film or theatre work, stage, cabaret, leisure (redcoat/ cruise ships) film or TV work. Employment within the industry not only depends on talent, but also on a sense of determination to succeed. You will be given advice on self-employment and potential routes.

£5900 per year to include books, examination fees and registration fees. There may be additional costs for educational visits, uniforms, materials etc. and this cost will be advised on application.

Additional Info: 

You will have the opportunity to perform in the Jellicoe Theatre which is a fully functioning venue.  We mount 22 productions a year with a variety of shows including Musicals, Dance Shows, Classical and Contemporary Plays, all of which you will attend as part of your course.
