Introduction:

This course is ideal for anyone who has 'green fingers' and would love to learn more about gardening and horticulture, including growing and propagating plants and flowers.

If you love the outdoors and could see yourself working in a nursery or garden centre then this course studied at The College 's High Mead Farm is the one for you.

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of 2 GCSE's. You should demonstrate an active interest in horticulture and land based industries.

You should be willing to work outdoors and in all weathers.

Course Details:

You will study 7 units in total:

  • Contribute to the establishment of plants
  • Contribute to the maintenance of plants
  • Contribute to the propagation of plants
  • Develop performance in land-based industries
  • Identify common pests and diseases
  • Identify plants
  • Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries

You will also study literacy, numeracy and have weekly tutorials. You will have regular meetings with your tutor to review your progress and have access to extra help and support for your learning should you need it.

Course Assessment:

You will be assessed through work based assessment and the production of a portfolio.

Course Progression:

On successful completion you could progress to NVQ Level 2 Horticulture at The College, into employment or onto an apprenticeship in a nursery or garden centre,
