Social & Health Care Programme

The programme area of Social and Health Care operates on 3 main sites: North Road - Poole, Lansdowne - Bournemouth, and Redlands, Knyveton Road - Bournemouth (our specialist Counselling section).

Our programmes are designed for people aged 16+ years and range from Level 1 (Foundation) to Level 4 (Diploma). Some are on a part time basis and others full-time; most have work experience as an integral. There is opportunity for progression following successful completion of your programme into a higher level course at college or university or into the world of work.

All courses are designed for people wishing to work in the health and social care sector in occupations such as nursing, social work, physiotherapy, radiotherapy, probation services, counselling and so on. Our NVQ Care qualifications operate largely on a distance learning basis with regular optional drop in workshops plus formal teaching input at North Road. Tutorial support is available "face to face" or at the end of a phone call and in this way we are able to cover a vast geographical area. Our Assessors are also happy to visit you in the workplace.

We cater for learners from a wide range of educational backgrounds. We wish to give all learners the opportunity to achieve their academic potential.

All applicants are invited to interview and guidance will be given at this point so that you are placed upon a programme where you are most likely to succeed and progress from. Experience has shown us that there are minimum requirements necessary if results are to be achieved, hence the entry requirements linked to each course.

You will have a personal tutor whilst on your course who is normally someone who teaches you. They will keep a close eye on your progress and help you with decisions about your future. We may also be able to arrange specialist help with specific learning difficulties e.g. dyslexia and all learners can take advantage of an active learning and study skills service to maximise chance of success.
