Pathway Programme, Access & Community Education

Personal Tutor and StudentThe Pathway programme is a full-time course for school leavers with severe learning disabilities and/or difficulties. The programme aims to develop social skills, communications skills and self-advocacy skills. It offers a wide range of activities and experiences both in the College and in the local community that are relevant to everyday life. The three year structure of the course provides an opportunity for flexibility within each subject area and means that students can be placed into a group which is appropriate for the ability level. Students work towards basic pre-entry skills and the Essential Skills Award.

In addition each student receives:

Personal Tuition

Each student has a personal tutor and regular meetings are scheduled to discuss issues on a one-to-one basis. Student progress is continually checked and monitored. Reports are written by tutors and regular feedback given to parents/guardians.

Day to Day Support

A large team of Learning Support Assistants who provide day to day support both in and out of the classroom. In some cases this can be individual support, but usually an assistant is allocated to a small group.

All students are strongly encouraged to look at their strengths and build upon them in order to progress effectively and manage their own lifestyles.

Speech Therapy

For students with communication difficulties, speech therapy is available.
