The Bournemouth and Poole College

Influencing change… our national position

The Bournemouth and Poole College is one of the UK’s leading colleges and is recognised as a progressive organisation.

In the bigger picture we are members of many national and even international educational fora, and believe in influencing change and ensuring that the FE sector as a whole is positioned accordingly. We strive for recognition for the important role colleges play in the wider skills agenda, and to do our part to inform and challenge, ensuring that learners and stakeholders experience first class opportunities.

157 group… In pursuit of excellence
The criteria for membership of the 157 Group include achieving Grade 2 or higher for leadership and management in the last Ofsted inspection, and having a turnover of not less than £35 million per annum.

The words ‘dynamism, confidence and authority’ have been selected to highlight the approach of the 157 Group. This will be achieved by working closely with partners, businesses and the community; by understanding the latest thinking on FE; by having a voice at national level and by taking a proactive approach to current issues. The 157 Group aims to engender not only excellence, but all the benefits that strong, inspirational leadership brings. Producing fulfilled, confident citizens capable of making a real contribution to the country’s economic development and productivity.

The aims and objectives of the 157 Group are ambitious. 157 Group colleges are pledged to making a difference and creating a better tomorrow for business, the community and individual citizens alike.

The Association of Colleges … Representing and promoting the FE sector
The Association of Colleges (AoC) exists to represent and promote the interests of colleges and to raise awareness of the FE sector. As such, the AoC aims to be the authoritative voice of colleges – based on credible analysis, research, advocacy and consultation with colleges.

The AoC was established in 1996 as a voice for further education and higher education delivered in colleges at national and regional level. Membership includes general and tertiary further education colleges, sixth form colleges and specialist colleges in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The AoC works collaboratively with college staff, governors and students, along with government agencies to inform and shape policies and activities for the sector.
